Welcome:
I have lived in Harnham, just outside Salisbury for over 35 years and always loved sewing or anything crafty.
After having two children, who I encouraged to follow my love of art, I found myself with more time to explore my interest in sewing. I used this opportunity to return to college where I spent 4 years studying City & Guilds in Creative Embroidery.
I worked in many schools for just over 20 years before retiring in 2021 and re entering normal life to concentrate on designing & producing textile pieces. I spend a lot of time working on my sketches of the local landscape. I am is drawn to the seasons and nature. I'm also attracted to the things that go un-noticed such as the ever changing fragility of old buildings, rusty doors or flaking paint. I use machine embroidery, drawing with the needle in a free way or hand techniques such as Japanese Boro, layering scraps of distressed and pre-used fabrics to create a new whole piece of fabric by layering, trapping, folding, darning and mending. I print, paint, dye and stain fabrics and paper. After careful selection, the small pieces are layered, patched and pieced.
I have enjoyed learning and extending my practice offering 1:1 workshops from my home in Salisbury
I am a member of Plain Arts Salisbury and also a member of 3 local sewing groups, 2 of which I set up. We meet monthly to share ideas, try out new techniques and to take part in local joint projects.
I specialise in free machine embroidery looking at local landscapes around Salisbury and the New Forest. I also love to sketch seascapes when I stay in my camper van: I especially love the Jurassic coastline in Dorset. On my return I love to use fabric collage as a background for my embroidery.
I am happy to take commissions in my speciality.
